Hi Guys
For years I've wanted to have a go at building/rebuilding a v8 engine. I'll be the first to admit that my mechanical experience is VERY limited.
I'm keen to learn as I go but I'm not frightened to ask for help when I need it.
Now I need to know where to start. Here's what I have in mind.
I want to build a 308 (carbureted) that will probably finish up in my ski boat.
Do you reckon that with a good instruction book, time, patience and some good guidance that I can do this?
Do I find a good runner that just needs a freshen up or a bit of a clunker?
How much should I pay for the above motor?
Does it cost a whole lot more to build a stroker than a stock 308? Is it any more difficult?
I currently have a 308 in my skiboat. Its serial # is VJ577488 What era is that? What would it have come from?
Assuming I can find a motor similar to this, what book(s) do you recommenced I buy. Videos?
I'm sure I'll have a stack of more questions and I'm looking forward to benefiting from the experiance of those on this forum who have already been there and done that.
oh, and before someones asks the obvious question...."what is your budget?", lets say its limited. I'm not looking at building a 9sec fire breathing monster. I'm just wanting to end up with a reliable motor that runs well, of which I can proudly say "I built that" :)
