hi. sprayed acrylic primer on my hilux yesterday. went pretty smoothly, but got a few follow-up questions.
- i was using a gravity HVLP style gun, and it always seemed there were wet spots at the end of the fan, not so much toward the centre. ive done a bit of reading, seems this was probably caused by too much pressure. i was letting 60psi out of the tank and 25psi into the gun (reg/gauge on both ends). should i definitely use less?
- i was mixing the paint in the gun pot, which is only ~800ml to the brim. i was putting the thinners in the pot, pouring in the paint and giving it a stir. first pot went on fine, second and third both started out blotchy (like little flecks of paint everywhere, not wet at all). i tried cleaning the tip and blowing a tiny bit of straight thinners through incase it was blocked. this didnt help. i then started mixing as i poured the paint into the pot/thinners real slow. this seemed to fix it. so i guess blotchy was due to straight paint coming out?
- so follow on question, i was filling that little pot like crazy every few minutes. is there anything wrong with mixing 2-3L in a big container and filling the gun from that?
- dry or wet sand with the guide coat?
- last question, why do people remove all the masking? if wet sanding i can understand, it will all get wet. that's why i am thinking dry lol.
