Recently started having intermittent charging problems -
1st symptom was low fuel flow during a 1 hr drive at night causing the engine to lean out so I pulled over thinking my fuel gauge was telling me lies.
A tap on the underside of the fuel tank confirmed plenty of fuel but pumps were really quiet plus fuel pressure gauge was reading 2 psi.
Checked the volt gauge and was reading under 12 volts with lights on and just over 12 volts with lights off and no change in volts even when raising revs.
Next day all was good - volts back up to just over 14 volts.
After another short drive I noticed the voltage dropping slightly to around 13 volts and turning the headlights on dropped the voltage to under 12 volts
Alternator was rebuilt for this engine (by me) with new bearings and new brush/reg assembly, copper contacts on the armature were skimmed on the lathe so should be as good as a new alternator !
Any help would be much appreciated !
