Looking To Buy An Inboard Ski Boat

Hi Guys,

I am a newbie to this site and a newbie to the world of inboard ski boats.

Apologies if this sort of thing has been covered in the past, I did see one thread but it had a bit of age about it. With a budget of maybe $10-15k, is there any brand of boat I should look for or stay away from? For the money I am guessing that I am only going to get something with a dog clutch but I have to start somewhere.

I will be using it on Lake Hume and Talbingo and Blowering Reservoirs mainly. I don't ski myself (shoulders are no good) but I really want my 9, 7 and 5 year old kids to learn how to ski, knee board, wake board etc. They are just starting to get a bit of confidence around the water so I reckon the time is right to get them into it. I don't need a rocketship, just a nice reliable sturdy boat to drag the kids around with and go for a cruise here and there with. Something easy to drive to encourage the wife to start driving boats would be good as well. She reckoned my old outboard boats were too hard to drive.

Has anyone got any thoughts on Shepirocraft boats? There is currently one on eBay that I like the look of. Alternatively, there is a nice old Camero that looks the goods as well.

I am not that good with mechanics, I can handle basic servicing and the like but start talking about re-builds and it goes straight over my head. Is there anything in particular to look for with an engine. Is a compression test worth doing for example? Any notorious spots for corrosion or wear and tear on components?

Hull wise, what sort of things other than spongy or soft spots in the floor. I am guessing inboards wouldn't have transom issues like outboard boats?

Any help, guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
